Soc-17 Structure Of The Respiritory System Flashcards
Define respiration
The movement of air from outside the body into cells within tissues
What is the diagphram
The primary muscle used in the process of inhalation-sepaerates the chest from the rest of the body cavity
What is the trachea
Tube that takes air into the chest, also known as the windpipe
What is the bronchus
Tube along which air passes from the trachea in the lung
What is the Bronchioles
Smaller branches coming of the bronchus
What is the alveoli
Tiny sacs at the end of the bronchioles where gas exchange takes place
What is the Haemogloblin
A type of protein found in every red blood cell
What is gaseous exchange
The delivery of oxygen from the lungs to the bloodstream and removal of carbon dioxide from the tissues
What is oxygen debt
The amount of oxygen needed at the end of high intensity physical activity to break down any lactic acid
What is Vital capacity
Vital capacity is the greatest amount of air that can pass into and out of the lungs by forceful inspiration and expiration
What is tidal volume
Tidal volume is the amount of air inspired and expired with each normal breath at rest or during exercise
How does exercise impact the cardio respiritory sytem
Lungs become more efficant at delivering oxygen to the working muscles
Carbon dioxide will be removed more efficiently
More alveoli becomes available for gas exchange
What is the difference between air you breathe in and out in percent
Oxygen and co2
20 percent oxygen and 0.4 percent carbon dioxide when you breathe in
16 percent oxygen when you breathe in and 4 percent carbon dioxide when you breathe out
What two muscles are used to inhale amd exhale
Intercoastal muscles and diaphragm
