Side Control Top Flashcards
Arm Bar- Far side arm bar
From side control top…
You have an under hook on their far arm…
Get their hand on the bottom side of your head by faking an Americana. They will defend by straightening the arm and you can maneuver it to the far side of your head. Both your arms will be on the far side of their body…
Cup their shoulder with your underhook and post with your other hand. Use your underhook to pull them towards your and onto their side. Bury the elbow of your underhook in their belly as you do this and keep pressure on them. This is the ‘up and crush’ position…
Lean towards their hips and bring your top knee in to pommel over their inside arm. Use the knee to pin the arm to the mat. Put your bottom leg over your top leg and windshield wiper to switch the leg pinning their arm. You should still have the posted hand on the other side of their body…
Step over their head, be sure to put the foot on the stepping leg directly behind their spine to stop them from rolling. Keep your other knee tight as well to keep them on their side…
Turn 180 degrees for the arm bar…
Prevent the hitch hiker escape by bringing their wrist towards their leg. This will make the hitchhiker escape into a partial kimura.

Windshield Wiper attack progression
From side control top with head and arm control…
Sit through to kesa gatame, lift their near arm and grab the arm with a thumb in grip on their bicep…
Sit back into side control and use your grip to push the bicep to the ground, pass your top knee over the bicep as you do this. Bring the bicep gripping hand to the mat on the far side of their body and get low and heavy chest to chest…
Pass your bottom leg over your leg trapping the arm to form an x…
Keep your under hooking arm control with the other hand the whole time…
When they bridge into you, windshield wiper your knees by lifting the bottom leg and pivoting on the knee until your other leg is over the arm. Drop the other leg down on top of the arm and step over their head with your other leg. Pull up on their arm if you have to to bring them fully onto their side. Then drop your knee down along their spine and squeeze the knees together to trap them…
Switch your arms under their arm and grab a kimura grip…stay low as you do this… pull the arm firmly into you in a chicken wing motion, keeping their tricep onyour chest…
Posture up and twist to finish…
To armbar…
If they are effectively fighting the kimura you canpost your leg behind their back up again for more leverage…if that doesn’t work turn a quarter turn and sit into back into an arm bar…
To north south…
If you feel uncomfortable about the arm bar and the kimura, use your under hook on their arm to pull them forcefully back to their back…
scoop their head with the other arm and sprawl back for a north south choke, walk back on your toes to lift the chin and keep both hips flat to the mat…
To D’arce choke…
If they go to over hook your leg as they come to their side…
Feed your arm over their arm on your leg and under their chin, grabbing an S grip with your other hand behind their neck…
Post out with your non arm pinning leg as you do this to make room for your grip…
Once you have the s grip, squeeze your elbow to stuff their head and then drop your shoulder to bring your choking arm farther out behind their head…
Grab the D’arce grip snd place your latching hand along their spine…
Bring your posted leg back in, inhale and squeeze…
Arm Triangle
From side control with head control and their arm on the near side of your head…
Pinch the arm with your head and pull down on their bicep to make space to clasp your hands in a gable grip…
Keep your head tight to keep them from moving their arm over their head. Pinch and pull them in with your arms…
With your far leg first, jump up and over them, landing on the other side of their body. Keep your grips as you do this…
Once your landed, keep your head on their forehead to block the arm…
Switch your grip to an RNC grip and put your hand on their forehead…
Drop your hips and walk around until you’re perpendicular to them…
Put pressure on the elbow with your chest and push into them as you breathe in and squeeze your elbows to finish…
Tips:
If you have the head and arm choke locked in, no matter what, don’t raise your hips in such a way as to relieve pressure on them….no to pass or anything, if you raise the hips they get out
Kimura- counter to the underhook
Pg. 348 in BJJ university
Transition to back mount, gift wrap to back
From side control top…
They try to switch their hips and run away from you so that they can pop their hips up, invert and re-guard…
As they pop their hips up they will have to open a space under their hips. As soon as that space opens, slide your knee into the space and put in a hook if you can…
Grab a seat belt grip and throw your other hook over to take the back…
You can hit this if you’re in side control top and they get and underhook and try to come up. Spin around them as they come up by passing your leg around them and back stepping to the other side of their body. As they continue to try to get up you can shoot your knee in as their hip comes off the ground…
Knee Slide to mount
From side control top with head and arm control…
Maintain pressure and grips as you move you knees together and then up and under their near arm to isolate it…
Once the arm is isolated and you are in high side control, bring your knee up and across their belt line, keeping your foot tucked away…
Quickly windshield wiper your leg across them and come to mount…
Reverse Kesa to mount
From the top of side control on the opponents right side…
Move your right hand to post by the opponents right hip…
Sit through with your left leg into reverse kesa gatame…
Use your right hand to gain control of the opponents far leg at the knee…
Pull their legs to the mat while swinging your right leg over their legs to establish mount…
