Closed Guard bottom Flashcards
Hip Bump Sweep + Kimura
Closed Guard Bottom
Once you have control of the arm… Post with your foot on the opposite side and bridge into them using your posting arm and your posted leg.
When they pressure back into you go with it and move immediately to a kimura position…
Variation:
If they move away from you, just go with them and try for the hip bump, posting on your rear arm. Be sure to post your rear hand and chamber your pushing leg. You want your hips higher than theirs to finish the move…
If the hip bump fails and they flatten you back down…Collapse down to your elbow and scoot your hips back, keeping control of the arm…
Continue the hip bump sweep motion (it will feel like a scissor sweep) to flip them over and come to mount top…

Scissor Sweep
Scissor sweep…arm detail…
On the scissor sweep the arm you’re gripping is super important. You want to pull that towards your head keeping constant pressure to stretch them out as you load them up
If you go for the scissor sweep and you can’t sweep them for some reason…
Take the sweeping leg, bring it up towards your chest, put your foot on the knee and kick the knee backwards to sweep. If that doesn’t work…
stiff arm and stand up…
Keep your knee shield strong. Straight arm with your hand in the collar…
Let go of the sleeve, get up on your elbow and then up on a post with your rear arm…
Shrimp or scoot out to open guard or the knees…
The above is part of the “Scissor Sweep…Knee on belly…Arm bar note”
Pendulum Sweep
From closed guard bottom…
Get a grip on their sleeve with the same side hand and slide your arm under their leg elbow deep…
Swing your opposite leg out in as wide an arc as you can as you use your elbow to turn perpendicular to them. Use the swing to get your hips up off the ground. The wider the arc the better the sweep. Get your other leg up in their arm pit…
Once the swing has reached it’s peak, reverse it and swing your leg back through the same arc as you chop down with your leg in the arm pit.
Their shoulder should hit the mat first as you come on top. You’re taking them over your head
As soon as you come to the top position, post out with the grip that was holding their sleeve and put your hips in to establish the position. Lead with the hips not the head. Stop the roll immediately once you come on top so that they don’t use the momentum to continue the roll…

Arm Drag to back take
Get control of a wrist…
Sit up as you shoot deep for the tricep for the arm drag. The arm drag is a scissor motion, As you come across for the wrist you also come across with the arm for the tricep grip. It should happen fast.
Stuff their wrist under your opposite arm pit and drag the arm across your midline. Pull them in with the legs and crunch up with the abs to keep the arm trapped…
If the arm is almost across but they are resisting, push on their elbow with your other hand to force the arm across…
Once the arm is across…sit up and bring your chest to their tricep as you throw your arm across the lat. The chest to the tricep is key to preventing them from squaring back up to you. Use the legs to hold them in and stay tight.
Shrimp out
Let go of the tricep and post with that hand (keep your chest tight to their tricep and stay sitting up)…
From here go for the body lock back take or get your hooks in and take the back.
As you go to put your hooks in, break guard and bring your bottom leg out and back in hooking their leg. Its a separate motion that you need to complete before throwing your other leg over for the full back take.
If they go flat after the arm drag and are lying on your leg thats okay. They have to come up and as they do they will create the space you need.
If you go to take the back and they drive into you
Keep control of the arm by holding the tricep…
Push the head away and bring your leg over their head. Their arm is trapped under your armpit…
Lift your hips to finish…
If they drive away
Omoplata by switching the arm the other side of your hips and putting it in your pocket…
Bring your foot over their face and turn your hips for the Omoplata…
Arm bar
Control the wrist, you must do this before proceeding…
Pass your other arm under their arm (the one you’re not attacking) and trap the tricep in the normal way by wrapping the arm…
Pull the arm to the center of your chest and control it…
Put your foot in their hip (same side as the arm you’re attacking), making sure to leave no space between your leg and their body/ the back of their tricep. Your leg should be putting pressure on the shoulder of the arm you’re attacking…
Keep control of the arm and push off the opponents hip. Turn your body so that you’re looking in their ear and bring your other leg up to lay across their shoulders, breaking their posture…
Swing your leg over their head and hook the neck with your leg. Bring both hands to their wrist…
Finish by inhaling and then bringing your heels slowly to the mat, you should’t have to move much to get the sub.
Tips
When climbing the foot up their back, thing of it as throwing your foot back behind you and over your head, not into their back and away from you…
When trapping the arm, always trap the nearest arm to you. Reach across and pull the tricep/ elbow towards your midline. Keep outward tension on the wrist and inward tension on the elbow (towards the midline) to gain added control and collapse the arm.
When you bring your foot to their hip, drag it along their body. Don’t let a gap open for them to pull their arm out. Keep pressure on the back of the arm you’re attacking with the inside of your thigh
Lean forward when setting up the arm bar, keep your weight over them and slide down the arm
Transition to triangle from failed arm bar-
If you bring your leg over to finish the arm bar and they pull out the arm, switch your legs so that they are one in and one out, cross your feet and finish the triangle as normal.
Triangle from over hook
From closed guard bottom…
Break their posture by pulling their elbows out to break their structure and then pulling them in with the knees…
As soon as the posture breaks. hug their head and grab a very high overhook. Put pressure down on their shoulder to prevent them from driving back into you…
Move your hips out towards the over hook so that you’re on your side and then re-guard…
Put your foot on the hip on the overhook side. This will keep them from driving forward. If they do get forward, keep all your control and shimmy back into position…
Once the foot is on the hip, let go of the head and push their far arm away so that you can sneak your knee under their arm. Put the foot of that knee on their hip and use it as a knee shield to keep them from driving forward…
Take the other leg out of their hip and bring it across their back and neck. It will be pinching the overhooked shoulder.
Take your leg out and lock your feet in a stage 1 triangle…

Arm Bar Stack counter to back take
If you have an arm bar but are getting stacked. The opponent is on their knees…
Push on them with your hamstrings to elevate them a bit, this will load them up and relieve some of the pressure…
Whip your top leg over their head and around behind their body. The momentum should spin you all the way around and across their midline…
Drag the arm you were attacking and let them fall into the hole where you were, get to your elbow and then to your hand…
Plant the foot you swung around and use a technical standup motion to get the leg under them and into a near hook, throw your other leg over them or pull them into you to take the back…
Firas Zahabi - Triangle set up
From closed guard bottom…
Break their posture by pommeling inside their hands and pulling forward with your legs…
Grab a collar tie and inside control on one of their arms. Move your hips out to the side away from the arm you control. This should extend their arm on that side…
You should now be on your side. Bring your top leg up and over their neck, your heel should be by their opposite shoulder. Use your arm control to sneak your knee in side and connect your knee and your heel this is ‘clamp guard’. square up as you bring the knee inside.
Continue controlling the arm and bring your foot the rest of the way inside for a stage 1 triangle…

Triangle from wrist stuff
From closed guard bottom…They have their hand on your biceps…
Pass one hand under their control and use the bicep on the other arm to feed their other hand to your hand. Pull their hand off your bicep and get a 2 on one grip on their wrist…
Keep a same side grip on their wrist and swim your arm up for the collar tie. You need to have the inside position on this arm. You now have a collar tie and wrist control on one side. Control their posture…
Push their wrist into their sternum and throw your leg over their trapped arm. Be sure the leg is knee deep. You must get the hollow of your knee over their shoulder to make an effective lock. Put your other foot in their hip. Keep the collar tie…
Use the foot in their hip to turn as you grab an underhook on their far leg. Take the foot out of their hip and bring your knee down over their head. Your lower back should be off the floor. Let go of the collar tie and grab your shin to maintain control of their posture…
Bite down with your hamstring on their neck (it should be perpendicular to their spine and lock up the figure 4 to finish. The strangle knee should be lower than their ear…

Triangle Knee set up
From closed guard bottom…
Get a collar grip and a grip above the elbow to keep them from pulling the elbow back…
Bring the leg opposite your sleeve grip over their arm in a knee shield type position. Stretch that out to make that side of their body turn away from you. s you push that side of their body away, pull them into you using the collar and arm grips…
You don’t have the foot on the hip for this. Just keep stretching them back and pushing with the knee until you can square up and slide it over their shoulder for stage 1.

General rule
Puch and pull them at all times. Dont let them settle at all. Use your legs, cut angles, break posture, This is not a static position.
Do not let them get their hand near your neck…that is dangerous even when they are in the closed guard…
If they are reaching for your neck, your hips are free to cut angles.
