Mount Top Flashcards

Q

Arm Bar - Body Push

A

Mount top

Get a high mount so that their elbows are up and exposed…grab their head and bring your knees up under their arm pits as far as possible…

Get one of their arms across their midline and immediately smother it with your chest to trap it…

Bring your arm in and post by their head, with your elbow in their ear and your forearm on the ground as you slide the knee up behind their head as high as you can…

Grab the far arm and lift it up to make room for your s-sit…

Once the s sit is in place…put out a kickstand with the knee by the head and use it to hip into the trapped arm…

Secure the trapped arm around the wrist by grabbing your gi collar…

If they try to defend by putting the other arm over top just grab it and stuff it in your bottom pocket. Once you’re in the s sit they can’t get the arm you’re attacking out so you have time to deal with the other arm…

To finish…
Post by their hips and bring your other leg over their head…
bring the knee on that leg to the ground and hip in to finish… don’t fall back…

Q

Arm Bar grip break - full body Americana

A

You have the armbar but they are defending…

Take your bottom hand and cup their elbow. Tighten your lat and put that elbow in your pocket on that side. This will make space for you to swim your other arm in…

From there, look for a gap in their grips. The goal is to get a hold of the hand on the arm you’re attacking. Once you have the hand/ wrist, turn it towards their head (similar to an americana) using your whole body and core. Rotate towards their head and extend the arm and bring it back into position for the finish…

If they are still defending, grab their far arm and pull everything into you. Keep your arm under theirs tight and pull them in further. Bite and hold it the idea. It should feel like rowing a boat. As son as you see their hand is open to attack, grab it and bring it out and around to finish…

Q

Arm Bar grip break - hip in

A

You have the arm bar from the mount. You’re trying to finish but they have a gable grip…

Pass your top hand under their arm and grab your far hip. Put pressure on their head to prevent them from sitting up. You want to keep them from sitting up…

Take your bottom hand and put it on the ground behind you. Post on this arm and hip in in a sit up sweep motion while keeping their head pushed into the ground. This move will fail if they sit up…

Hip in to break their gable grip and bring their now isolated arm out and around for the finish…

They are very strong and are defending the arm bar.

Your top arm is under their arm and they are doing the RNC defense

Grab under your ribs and cinch up, pull with your body weight, constant pressure to make them burn out…

Grab their leg and pull with your body as you push away with your legs to keep them from sitting up into you…

Q

Mount Retention

A

Mount maintenance

For a heavy top mount do the following:

Knees off the ground and hands lightly resting on the ground, ready to move.

Hips in like you have grapevines (even though you don’t)…

If they try to get the elbow in for an elbow escape

Pinch the knee to their hip on that side and put the toes out as a kick stand in case they bridge towards you…

Your other leg keeps contact with their hip. You should be slightly perpendicular to them in this position.

Repeat this movement as needed and go for chokes and arms to upset their attempts to escape.

Stay heavy the whole time.

Q

Triangle from mount

A

From Mount Top…

You should try to trap at least one arm and bring it up towards their head so that their elbow is away from their body…

Pin the wrist of the trapped arm against the mat with your same side arm and pass your other arm under their head and cup their arm pit on the opposite side…

Lean towards the trapped wrist and use the arm behind their head to bring their shoulder off the mat. Slide your knee up behind their shoulder and move into an S-sit…If you can’t get your hips past their elbow, move your hips out a bit, slide the knee up and get tight again (4:30 of video.)

As you move to the S- Sit, pass your leg over their trapped arm and grab your ankle with the hand behind their head. Once your foot is over their arm you don’t need to pin that arm any more…

You should be able to lock up the triangle from this position. You can also go for the arm bar (finish from the top, don’t fall back)

If you have trouble locking the triangle, place the shin of the figure 4ing leg over your calf on the choking leg. Stay in a mount position and pull of the head as you bear down on them for the finish…

You can also grab their wrist on the trapped arm in both hands and turn it out for the Americana or go for the arm bar on their trapped arm…

To finish the triangle from the top, make sure you shoot the leg deep so that your hamstring is over their artery. Finish by squaring your hips with your shin so that they are perpendicular to their neck. Don’t stay square to them (9:00 in video)

Q

Arm Bar - Draculino Sequence - Bottom arm attack

A

From mount top…

Try to get a high mount so that your hands are free if they bridge. Also to get their elbows and arms as high as possible…

Their hands will likely be crossed to defend the neck. Use both your hands to grab the bottom arm. Have one hand on the wrist and one on their forearm on the other side of the top arm. Put your weight down on this arm to make your hips light…

Quickly sit to an s-mount position. You want to get your hip behind the elbow of the top arm…

Keep pressure on the arm with your bottom hand and use your top hand to peel the top arm up by passing your arm under the wrist…

Finish the arm bar from on top of them. Don’t fall back…
