Knee on Belly Top Flashcards
Transition to Mount
Directly across or back step around
Far side armbar
From Knee on Belly Top…
Use your posting leg to follow them if they move…
If they are pushing on your knee and flaring the elbow they are presenting the opportunity for an under hook on their far arm…
Grab the underhook with your bottom arm, go deep and cup their shoulder…
Post on the far side of their head with your top arm for leverage…
Use your posting hand to ‘up and crush’. You want to pull the far shoulder towards you as you push off your posting hand and lift your knee on their belly to allow them to come up onto their side. You should move your elbow in front of their chest and bring your chest to the middle of their arm when they are all the way up on their side. Put pressure down and keep your post on the far side of their head…
Use the hand posting by their head to push their head to the mat…
Lean into their arm to make your top leg light and step over the head with your top leg. Try to plant your foot as close to their spine as possible when you step. This will make it harder for them to get their shoulders to the mat. Once your foot is planted, use your knee to hug their shoulder and prevent the roll…
Once you’ve stepped over your feet don’t move.
Lift your hips as little as possible and pivot your body 180 degrees for the arm bar…
Try to land a perpendicular as possible when you get to the final position…

Baseball choke combinations
From knee on belly top…
Get your top hand deep in their collar. If you are coming up from side control you can get this grip even before you pop up for knee on belly. Once you have the grip there are two choke options…
- Looping Cross choke
Pass your bottom hand under your top arm and get a palm up grip behind your other hand…
Pass your top hand around their head and you’ll be in cross choke position. Slide across to mount to finish the choke once you have your grips in…
If you’re in position for the choke but can’t finish, hop around to a north south position while keeping your grips. Come to your feet and deadlift them up to expose and take their back.
- Baseball choke
Pass your bottom hand to the collar on the far side of their head and get a palm up grip on their collar…
Slide the knee on their belly over their near arm and step around with the other leg so that you’re parallel to them. Place your head on their stomach and drop your hips to pressure in and finish…

Transition to the back
From Knee on belly top. Keep your foot level with their shoulders
Use your bottom hand to grab their neck in a collar tie. Lift up their near elbow with your top hand. Lifting the elbow prevents them from turning in. Pull up on their head and push down with the collar tie on their chest…
They will likely roll away from you. When they roll away move to modified mount as they expose their back…
If they do roll towards you, keep the collar tie and the elbow grip. As they come to their side, release the grip on the elbow and step over their head. Then backstep to their back. Make sure your knee is close to their spine and you’re low.
Connect your arms and sit them up to take the back…

Near side armbar
From knee on belly top…
You have a collar tie with the bottom hand and
your pulling on their near arm and it’s either stuck in your armpit or they extended it into your armpit. Cup their elbow to maintain control…
Move your knee on the belly up into their armpit and hook behind their shoulder with your foot…
Let go of their neck and post with your bottom hand. Use this post to bring your free leg over their head. Put your Achilles over their neck and pinch your knees as you side back for the arm bar…
Finish by keeping your cupping hand on the elbow and placing your other hand over the eye of the elbow in a “shotgun grip”. Their wrist should be under your lat. Squeeze the legs and lean back to finish…
