how opinions/veiws can be controlled/shaped by the media to direct the audience and think and feel a certain way
refers to media influence in laying down list of subjects for public discussion
this gives those in charge of the media a great deal of power over society, thus some subjects not be discussed as public never informed about it

process where mass media emphasise/reinforce conformity to social norms and isolate others who dont conform. they do this either by encouraging conformist behaviour, being brave/helping other, which reinforces gender stereotypes or by discouraging non conformist behaviour eg football hoolagism

news stories which are least persont are those who damage values and itnrest of upper class
eg won’t present ideas and injury in the workplace, despite the fact it causes greater loss of working hours

their maybe other biases due to false reproting/incorrect info, however media diversity does this to make the story mroe interesting to an audience. can cause moral panic (Cohen) which is a wave of moral concern about exaggerated or imaginary threat to society
