What is Salbutamol?
A
A bronchodilator. Specifically a beta2 adrenoreceptor stimulant drug.
Has a relaxant effect on the smooth muscle in the medium to smaller airway.

Indications
A
Acute asthma where inhaler therapy has failed.
Expiratory wheeze associated with allergy, anaphylaxis, smoke inhalation
Exacerbation of COPD

A
If COPD limit nebulisation to 6 mins Hypertension Angina Overactive Thyroid Late pregnancy Bronchomalacia Severe Hypertension

Side effects
A
Repeat doses should be limited if side effects are becoming signficant. Tremor shaking Tachycardia Palpitations Headache Feeling of tension Peripheral vasodilation Muscle cramps rash

A
In acute/severe/LF asthma IPR should be given after first dose of Salbutamol

Dosage and admin
A
If COPD limit nebulisation with O2 to 6 mins. Nebulise with 6-8 litres of O2 INT D - 5 milligrams D INT - 5 mins RPT D - 5 milligrams
No limit but monitor side effects
