What is Midazolam (MDZ)?
A
A benzodiazepine (tranquilliser) with anxiolytic, sedative and anticonvulsant properties. Often used for trouble sleeping and severe agitation.

Indications?
A
Convulsions lasting 5 minutes or more and STILL FITTING or 3 or more convulsions in an hour. Convulsion continuing 10 minutes after first dose of medication.
Must be patients own unless they have a PGD

A
None

Dosage and administration?
A
For adult 10 milligrams
10 min wait
repeat 10 milligrams

A
Buccal

Cautions?
A
Always check dose carefully as administration can lead to respiratory depression and arrest. Susceptible patients are children and adults over 60 years.
