safe water:
diseases
A lack of clean water can increase the risk of waterborne diseases, and disease pathogens including; gastro, diarrhea, cholera and dysentery.
impact of disease on HS:
Repeated bouts of diarrhea and infections from unsafe drinking water can lead to malnutrition and increase U5MR.
impact of disease on BOD:
An increase in premature death, YLL as a result of thousands of preventable child deaths.
impact of disease on HWB:
Undernutrition as a result of continuous bouts of diarrhea can reduce the efficient functioning of the immune system, decreasing physical health and wellbeing.
Undernutrition can mean children cannot attend school and therefore are not experiencing opportunities to socialize effectively with other children their age. Affecting social HWB.
Lack of time for employment: HS
As less women are working there is less tax to be collected by the government. Meaning there is less money for resources such as healthcare and education. Increasing morbidity or mortality.
trekking long distances: BOD
YLD from musculoskeletal conditions such as arthritis caused by trekking long distances with heavy amounts of water. Preventing them from working and earning an income.
Lack of time for employment and looking after children: HWB
As most of the day is spent trekking long distances with heavy amounts of water, children and women may have lower energy levels preventing them from working and attending school. Impacting physical health and wellbeing.
Lack of time for employment and looking after children + trekking log distances;
It is often women who have to trek long distances to collect water and then carry it back. They may have to make this trip many times in one day.
