Housing
Limits access to adequate and nutritious food. explanation
This increases the risk of malnutrition, which may lead to the lowering of the immune system leaving them susceptible to cholera, malaria, diarrhoeal disease.
Limits access to adequate and nutritious food: HS
Increase in maternal mortality - a lack of access to nutritious food during pregnancy may make it more likely for the mother to die during pregnancy due to low energy levels or poor immune system function.
Limits access to adequate and nutritious food: BOD
YLD - increases the risk of malnutrition, which may lead to the lowering of the immune system leaving them susceptible to cholera, malaria, diarrhoeal disease.
YLL - the above diseases may also cause premature death especially in children.
Limits access to adequate and nutritious food: HWB
Decrease in Physical health and wellbeing as a lack of access to adequate and nutritious foods, may result in decrease in energy and therefore unable to work further promoting the effects of poverty.
healthcare
Reduces access to healthcare as there is less money put in by the government.
healthcare: HS
A lack of access to birthing services means women do not have professional birthing assistance such as midwives and nurses, therefore meaning women are more likely to experience complications such as a stetric hemorrhage. Increasing maternal mortality.
healthcare: BOD
Not being able to access health professionals means conditions such as hypertension and CVD can go untreated and may cause death, therefore increasing YLL, premature death.
healthcare: HWB
Pregnant women may have increased levels of stress and anxiety due to a lack of resources, such as regular check ups and updates about the baby’s health. Therefore decreasing mental health and wellbeing.
adequate housing
Many rely on wood and coal for indoor heating. Many don’t have effective ventilation such as chimneys so they have high levels of indoor air pollution.
adequate housing: HS
Women and children often cook in housing with poor ventilation, meaning they are exposed to the air pollution within the house, therefore causing chronic respiratory diseases and conditions such as pneumonia. Increasing under 5 mortality rate.
adequate housing: BOD
Inadequate housing may increase the risk of infectious diseases spreading such as malaria by exposing individuals to the mosquitoes that spread it. Increasing YLD.
adequate housing: HWB
Individuals may have increased levels of stress and anxiety as their house may lack the facilities to keep out home invaders and burglars. Leaving them constantly worried and feeling unsafe about home invasions, decreasing mental health and wellbeing.
