Dementia
A
- Refers to the loss of cognitive function (thinking, rememering and reasoning) to an extent that it interferes with a persons daily life and activities
- A range of progressive conditios that affect the brain
- Caused by damage/loss of nerve cells and their connections to the brain, affecting the ability to remember, think and speak
- Affect’s anyone but more common for people over 65

Alzheimer’s disease
A
- Most common type of dementia in UK
- Caused by a build up of proteins in the brain which damages the brain cells ability to transmit messages
- Symptoms: dfficulty remembering short-term events, poor concentration, confusion, difficukty recognising people or objects, disorientation, difficulty performing everyday tasks

Amnesia
A
- Memory loss that invoves the inability to recall information
- Anterogade amnesia- cannot form new memories
- Retrogade amnesia- losing existing, previously made memories
- Causes: head and brain injuries, drugs, alcohol, traumatic events or conditiond like alzheimers
