Every radiation employer should
in respect of any controlled/supervised area, make + set down in writing local rules that appropriate to radiation risk + nature of operations carried out in area (each surgery with x-ray equip must have own set of local rules)
Radiation employers should ensure local rules
are bought to attention of employees + ppl who may be affected by them + should appoint 1 or more RPS’s for purpose of securing compliances with rules + local rules should contain the names of these appointed
Important to
maintain radiation file that is comprehensive + contains access to:
1.
practice declaration declaration that it complies with IRR99 regulations
2.
inventory of all x-ray equip (include assessment/maintenance reports)
3.
details of all processing equip + chemicals
4.
details of risk assessments carried out
5.
local rules for each controlled area
6.
details of how pt safety is maintained
7.
details of quality assurance - includes evaluation image quality, processing procedures, handling of chemicals, maintenance of processor equip, justification + reporting of radiographs
8.
x-ray audits carried out (should be carried out in time period not exceeding 12 months. any part of QA programme may be audited)
9.
Record of all staff involved in radiography procedure at practice + details of their training. includes developing + storing of x-rays + related equip + chemicals.
Every employer
should ensure employees in ionising radiation are given appropriate training in RP + receive info + instruction as is suitable + sufficient for them to know risks to health created by exposure
