Other radiography methods Flashcards
Instant films
Useful but film deteriorates
The film + chemicals are in one pouch
Instant films
The film is exposed as normal
Chemicals are pushed down the pouch + film is processed
The image is ready to view in about 30 secs
Sialography
Referred for this if needed
Performed when a pt is suspected of having a blocked salivary gland
Sialography
A dye is fed into the gland + the output is monitored using radiography
Very effective easy method to determine blockages
CBT - cone beam technology
Machine produces a digital 3 dimensional image of the jaws
These images allow dentists to see pts anatomy in 3 dimensions without distortion
Means greater surgical predictability + recused surgery time
But dose is quite high
Hand held X-ray units
New technology is being introduced with hand held units however these are subject to concerns due to ability to keep unit still + safety aspect due to close proximities of the operator to the main beam
