Digital processing intro Flashcards
Solid state sensors
a small black rectangular boxes attached to computer by cable. - not autoclavable, must use plastic barrier when in use
The image
is transferred directly from mouth to the computer
Phosphor storage plates
not connected to computer by cable, once cleared the plates are reusable
Intra oral plates
need to be used in protected barrier
The phosphor layer
absorbs + stores x-ray energy + the image is placed into a reader where it is scanned by laser beam + transferred to computer
Intra oral
x-ray beam is fired at a special sensor plate which digitally sends the image to the computer screen
Extra oral
digital x-rays are very expensive + usually only found in hospitals
the digital image is the same way we do a photo from a digital camera
