check chemicals + water levels are adequate
2.
check temps of solutions (water bath kept at 18-22 degrees) + determine developer + fixer times required from manufacturers guidelines
3.
check timing clock + film hangers available
4.
lock door + switch off all lights except safe light
5.
open film or cassette + clip onto film hanger (only handling film by its edges)
6.
remove lid from developer tank + completely immerse film - start timer (usually around 5 mins)
7.
when timer sounds, remove hanger + film + immerse into first water tank
8.
shake off excess water + fully immerse hanger + film into fixer tank (usually around 10 mins)
9.
replace lid on developer tank - oxidation may occur if not put back on
10.
when timer sounds, remove hanger from fixer tank + immerse into second water tank
Dark room
normal light is excluded, made completely dark to allow processing of light sensitive materials. Uses an orange or red safe light and room must be lockable from within so nobody can enter whilst processing is carried out
