Extra-oral views Flashcards
What do they consist of?
cassette case: loaded into the machine
intensifying screen: to reduce dose of radiation exposure
film: type compatible with your intensifying screen
DPT/OPG
gives overall view of both jaws in full + surrounding anatomy
used for:
ortho, wisdom tooth, bone loss assessment, diagnosis of jaw fractures
Cephlometric/lateral skull
view side of head taken in a cephlostat (can be attachment to OPG/DPT or on its own)
used for:
ortho trt planning, monitor jaw growth, monitor trt progress
Lateral oblique
show posterior portion of one side of the mouth - not used now since OPG/DPT have been introduced
used to:
assess position of wisdom tooth, detection of fractures on mandible, alternative to intraoral views
Pt accessories that affect dental image:
earrings, tongue studs, ortho appliances, dentures, glasses
These left in may lead to a retake therefore not keeping the dose ALARP
