Clinical features of rabies infection
prodrome: headache, fever, agitation
hydrophobia: water-provoking muscle spasms
hypersalivation
What name is given to cytoplasmic inclusion bodies found in Rabies infected neurons?
Negri bodies
Management of animal bites in countries where there is a high risk of rabies infection
- wash wound
- If already immunised = 2 further vaccine doses
- if not immunised = human rabies immunoglobulin (HRIG) and full vaccine course
*if possible, administer HRIG near wound
If untreated, rabies is nearly always fatal. TRUE/FALSE?
TRUE
