Delaney hgihglihgts the normalised standards of motherhood in the 1950s , of devoting yourself to your husband . By Helen giving herself to Peter , Delaney is making a social comment about the distinction in views towards sex from both women and men. Men are allowed to be frivilous when it comes to sex but the women in the play have to pay for their taste of honey, they are punished for their sexual encounters whereas the men are free.
