Q-FMS Flashcards
Can you do an LPV approach just on one FMS ?
NO, dual FMS are required to conduct Localizer Performance with Vertical guidance ( LPV )
What kind of FMS are installed on out Q400?
Dual- UNS 1EW SCN 1000
2-Multi Function Control Display Units ( MFCDU )
GPS has WAAS and SBAS
Describe how the FMS provides Lateral Navigation and and Vertical Navigation guidance ?
Its based on data from the navigation receivers and air data sensors.
it provides course, course deviation, bearing-to-waypoint and distance to waypoint information that is then displayed on the Pilots and Co-pilots MFD.
all of this is coupled with the Auto pilot and the flight director
Does the FMS have to be operated in SYNC with each other ?
No they can be used independently , however when in SYN, when one FMS is programmed the other automatically accepts any thing that is programmed by the other.
each FMS although SYNCED, each continue to do its own navigation calculations, data base updates etc.
also any changes made to the EFIS and or MFD only changes the respective FMS.
Where do our data base updates come from ?
Jeppesen
Limitations
Software SCN 1000 must be installed before using FMS
There mist be an Operator’s Manual thats for the SCN 1000 version, if no Supplements take precedence
If FMS data based is expired Approach Navigation is prohibited and enroute and terminal unless way points verified
Stored flight plans you must verify each waypoint for each flight. TLR
On approaches RAIM must be available before the final approach fix
Level of service must be available inside the final approach fix and not less then 1000’
Lateral and Vertical Sensitivity
ENROUTE
2.0nm for two dots scale deviation Laterally
1467ft for two dots scale deviation Vertically
TERMINAL
1.0nm for two dots scale deviation Laterally
492ft for two dots scale deviation Vertically
APPROACH
2DEG for two dots of CDI scale deviation until two dots is equal 350ft then two dots is equal to 350ft
492ft for two dots of vertical deviation, then angular to 148ft
except for LPVm LOS is 49ft
note
the lateral sensitivity on an APPR change occurs at the FAF
On start up of the FMS ?
The FMS runs as self-test
The first FMS to initialize second, will automatically sync to the first FMS
If the self test fails, the FMS will prohibit LPV approaches and it will display a message.
Level 1
Raw data aircraft low l
Level 2
flight director
Level 3
autopilot
Level 4
all 3 plus dual FMS
Can you MEL and FMS ?
Yes
Where does power for the FMS ?
respective MAIN busses
Initializing the FMS
7 Green passes in the BITE test
make sure they all say pass
If theres a fail and its critical it will stall on the BITE page other wise it will then move to the INIT 1/1 page
