What is an APD ?

A

Advance Pneumatic Detectors or fire loop.

How do the ADP’s work ?

A

They are sensor tubes filled with helium that are sensitive to changes in temperature.
a fault accurs when theres a leak in the tubes, then you get the fault loop light

What’s the indication if there’s a break in the ADP?

A

This causes a FAULT in either A or B light on the fire protection panel.

What controls the detection and signalling of the warning when there’s a fire ?

A

controller amplifier

How does the fire extinguishing work after a fire is detected and confirmed ?

A

Pulling the T-handle on the effected engine arms the bottle.
To extinguish the bottle, select the EXTG switch to either FWD or AFT.

How does a fire in the baggage compartment get extinguish ?

A

There’s 2 HR and 1 LR fire extinguishers in the BAGGAE compartment.
Each compartment has one HR and the LR is shared by both but it’s in the AFT compartment.

How does smoke detection work in the AFT baggage compartment ?

A

There’s two detectors.

1 in the aft and 1 in the rear.

What indications come on the fire protection panel when there’s smoke and alarms are on ?

A

FIRE BOTTLE- AFT ARMED ( amber ) ON

BAGGAGE AFT- SMOKE EXTG Switchlight turns ON

How is air prevented from entering the baggage compartment following a fire alarm in the baggage compartment ?

A

The control amplifier when an alarm from the smoke detector alarms to a fire, the controller signals a relay contact to cut of power to the INLET and OUTLET valve causing them to close.

How do you operate the fire extinguisher in the aft baggage compartment ?

A

By pushing the SMOKE/EXTG swithclight activates the HR extinguisher in the AFT baggage compartment. Then after a 7 min delay the LR extinguisher discharges in the forward and aft compartments.

the low rate takes about aprx 15min to fully discharge
