If Officer perceives that a member of his command is behaving in a unusual or other than normal manner….he should Notify?
CHIEF MEDIAL OFICER- for complete medical examination
request will placed in SEALED enveloped marked “CONFIDENTIAL”, forwarded directly to CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER, BHS
-Officer should leave phone number by which medical officer can reach him….the request should NOT give any description of the alleged behavior
If in the opinion of the officer, the behavior of any member is such to present a danger to the member or to anyone else…..
IMMEDIATE telephone call shall be made to BHS during officer hours or to FDOC at other times, requesting presence of a medical officer
AND
IMMEDIATE PHONE CALL to BATTALION
VOLUNTARY REFERRAL.
employee seeks counseling on his own with assistance of union delegate /trustee
-all members offered ONE voluntary referral and CSU will divulge no information regarding member’s treatment
SUPERVISORY REFERRAL
- ORDERED to CSU by superior officer
- referring individual will be informed whether the employee is evaluated as having a problem needing treatment and whether employee is in compliance with treatment
AND
Individual with previous VOLUNTARY referral seeks assistance for a second time within 3 year period (considered supervisory referral)
Voluntary referral and failure to comply…
but notifies CSU AND RETURNS TO BHS FOR AN EXAM TO DETERMINE DUTY STATUS ON NEXT WORKING DAY AFTER LEAVING TREATMENT , NO ACTION WILL BE TAKEN, UNLESS MEDICAL OFFICER THINKS ITS NECESSARY
-fails to notify CSU , after leaving treatment program, AWOL
SUPERVISORY REFERRAL , FAILURE TO COMPLY..
- DISOBEYED ORDER AND EXHAUSTED TREATMENT
- sent to BHS for duty status determination /including substance abuse test
- non-compliance reported to BITS
IF A supervisor believes that a member is exhibiting abnormal behavior, a REFERRAL SHOULD be made to CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER ..
supervisor should be prepared to document the nature of the member’s conduct , its frequency and effect on member’s performance and on coworkers
-dates , times and place of such behavior should be noted as well as names of witnesses
