Review the placement of hare traction splint.
A
- Size it by comparing the splint to the normal leg. The ankle stirrup needs to be a few inches below the ankle in order to make room for the setup.
- Place the board under the leg.
- Put the rubber bar in the infragluteal fold.
- Secure the top strap over the proximal femur.
- Secure the ankle strap over the ankle.
- Pull to reduce the leg.
- Secure the rest of the femur straps.

Plaster and water is an exothermic reaction and can actually lead to burns if it’s too hot.
