Posture Flashcards
What does Lordosis present as?
An increased anterior lumbar curve from neutral
What does Kyphosis present as?
Increase posterior thoracic curve from neutral
What does Flat Back present as?
Decreased anterior lumbar curve, it decreases the normal inward curve of the lower back and tilts the pelvis posteriorly
What does Swayback present as?
Decreased anterior lumbar curve and increased posterior thoracic curve from neutral
AKA a long outward curve of the thoracic spine with a decreased anterior lumbar curve and backward shift of the upper trunk
What does Scoliosis present as?
Lateral spinal curvature accompanied by vertebral rotation
How should you help correct lordosis?
Focus on strengthening the abdominal and hip extensor (hamstring) muscles whilst stretching the hip flexors (iliopsoas) and spine extensors (erector spinae)
What weak muscles are often leading causes of Kyphosis/rounded shoulders? Why?
the rhomboids and traps because they control scapular movement
When should you refer a client with one of these deviations to a physician?
When they cannot assume a neutral spine posture.
