What are the roles and responsibilities of the SRO?

Answer 1

1. An SRO Is first and foremost a Cheyenne Police Officer. This responsibility will take precedence over any other duties. However, SRO’s will make efforts to balance time to law enforcement, teaching and counseling.
2. Identify high risk behavior or criminal activity in and around school property. Investigate all reported crimes.
3. Provide timely pertinent crime related information to school personnel and security.
4. SRO’S wIll not participate in dispensing of school discipline.
5. Coordinate school activities which promote a safe school environment.
6. Provide informal counseling to students, faculty, and parents as needed.
7. Coordinate activities with other bureaus and units to provide additional manpower for educational, safety, security, and enforcement sessions.
8. Provide a component to the school curriculum and explain the law enforcement role in society.
9. Be a resource for identifying potentially violent behavior and aid in reducing or avoiding possible conflicts
