circumstances; every attempt should be made to not keep a juvenile in excess of six hours.

- A “non-secure” area is defined as “an area where the juvenile is held in an un-locked room.

What is the Laramie County Juvenile Crisis Center used for?
The Crisis Center will take juveniles (10 to 17 years old) under the following circumstances:
Youth Alternative referral
Children whose family is in crisis and other familial options are not available.
Non-violent youth who are out of parental control and need to evaluate their
position.
Department of Family Services Child Protective Services placement.
District Attorney recommendation to officers for alternative to detention placement for
non-violent children.
Court Ordered Placement
-Children waiting for a more permanent placement.
Children requiring a diagnostic assessment.
Officers must contact who before taking Juveniles to the Laramie Juvenile Crisis Center?
Officers must contact on-call Youth Alternatives staff to assess the situation
prior to transporting juveniles to the Crisis Center, 637-6480 (24 hr.number).
What are the reasons a juvenile may not be accepted at the Crisis Center?
Reasons a juvenile may not be accepted at the Crisis Center:
-No bed space available
- Under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol
- Suicidal – statement or actively suicidal
- Serious medical condition requiring constant care or immediate care
- Previously terminated from the Crisis Center or ran away from the Crisis Cente
- Violent behavior
