What type of verbiage will be used during school lockdown procedures?

A

Officers will only use the approved verbiage when taking actions to secure a school tacility to mitigate any confusion of what is expected from a school.

Why would we use Secure Perimeter?

A

wIll be used it there is activity in the vicInity of a school facility which calls for monitoring access coming into the
school or leaving.

What are the procedures for secure perimeter?

A

When in a Secure Perimeter the school will assign a staff member to monitor the main entrance (also the secondary entrance if required.)

Activity inside the building will remain normal. (Teaching, passing periods, restrooms, nurse indoor PE/recess, etc.)

What are some examples of Secure Perimeter?

A

Examples for use would include:

Foot pursuits. vehicle pursuits. warrant service. calls for service where a suspect has left the
location and may pose a threat to a school, calls involving Firearms, etc.

Officers will notify Dispatch to contact the SRO to place the school in question into a secure
Perimeter.

or if immediate response is needed. the ofticer mav contact the school in person

When notified by an officer, the SRO assigned to the school or the SO Supervisor will call the LCD#1 SuperIntendent’s office to accomplish the request.

When will Lock Down be used?

A

Will be used if there is imminent danger to students or staff/public in or near the facility.

What are some examples for a Lock Down?

A

Examples would include;

An active assailant inside the building or immediately outside

School will go into a full Lock Down, with barricade procedures, lights off, doors closed and locked, children hiding.

Once the active assailant is stopped; CPD personnel will unlock doors and escort students, teachers and staff to a secured location. This will be coordinated through the Incident
commander

CPD issued access badges wIll open doors with an electronic latch retraction system however.

Hard keys will be required to open classroom doors and some inner doors.

SRO’s have hard keys
as well as the SWAT commander
