Planes And Axis Flashcards
What is the sagittal plane
Divides the human body from top to bottom ( vertically) resulting in left and right halves.
E.g lunge
What is the frontal plane
Divides the body from top to bottom vertically front and back sections.
Example would be Star jumps
What is the transverse plane
Divides the body across the middle horizontally giving a top section, also known as superior, and bottom sections, also know as inferior.
Example would be: twisting
What is an axis
An imaginary straight line around which something turns
What is the frontal axis
Imaginary line passing horizontally through the body from left to right, allows abduction and adduction
What is the vertical axis
Imaginary line passing through the body vertically allows rotation of the body in an upright position
What is the sagittal axis
Imaginary line passing horizontally through the body from front to back allows flexion and extension
What plane of motion does a forward somersault occur in
Sagittal plane around the frontal axis
What planes and axes are used when doing a cartwheel
Frontal plane sagittal axis
