Pharmacology Flashcards
Receptor
Special chemical sites in the body in the sale which the drug binds to produce its affect
Agonist
Activates or mimics the receptors activity, produce desired response
Antagonist
Prevent receptor activation, blocks for usual activity
Therapeutic effect
Desired outcome
Adverse effects/drug reaction
Secondary/undesirable effects sometimes harmful and can lead to injury
Side effect
Unintended secondary effect, predictable, mild, tolerated as part of treatment
Allergic/anaphylactic
Immune system response interprets drug as foreign Substance and forms antibodies
Toxic
Are specific groups of symptoms related to drug therapy, can Cari rest for permanent damage or death
iatrogenic
And undesirable affect induced by a therapeutic intervention, medication or other medical treatment
Idiosyncratic/paradoxical
And unusual response to a drug
Drug interactions
Can occur whenever a patient takes two or more drugs
Contradiction
Refer to conditions that make the dragon unsafe are potentially harmful to administer
Three checks
1- when the nurse is getting/retrieving the medicine
2- after retrieval of drug from cart/drawer, comparing to EMAR
3- At the bedside before administration
The rights of Administration
Right patient, drug, dose , route, time, reason
