weakness; unsteadiness; wasting; p-decreased; s-normal; r-absent
What are the symptoms of large fibre sensory problems? PSR?
numbness; parasthesia; unsteadiness; p-normal; s-vibration and JPS reduced; r-absent
What are the symptoms of small fibre problems?
pain, dyesthesia; p-normal; s-pin prick and temp reduced; r-present
What is dyesthesia?
abnormal, unpleasant sensation of touch
What is pseudoathetosis?
abnormal writhing movements caused by lack of JPS
What are hte features of mononeuritis mulitplex?
subacute; mutliple nerve territories
What usually causes mononeuritis mulitplex?
vasculitis
What are the features of GBS?
progressive paraplegia over days upto 4 weeks with sensory symptoms preceding; pain; post-infectious
What is the most common infection associated with GBS?
campylobacter
What are the chronic causes of autonomic neuropathy?
DM; amyloidosis; hereditary
wha are the acute causes of autonomic neuropathy?
GBS; porphyria(acute intermittent)
What is the treatment for vasculitic peripheral neuropathy?
IV methylpred and cyclophosphamide
