Pagets Disease Definition
A
- Metabolic bone disease caused by increased bone resorption followed by excessive unrestricted bone formation, due to activated osteoclasts
- This leads to bone instability which can lead to fractures, arthritis, deformities, and pain
- Second most common metabolic bone disease to osteoporosis

Pagets Disease Cause
A
- Unknown (thought to be slow, viral bone infection due to risk factors include a gene-environment interaction)
- Seen in individuals older than 50 years
- Males = females
- Prognosis is good, especially if treated early (there is no cure but disorder can be controlled from progressing)

A
- Pain involving bones and joints
- Diffuse joint stiffness
- Abnormally large skull
- Jaw deformity
- Loss of hearing
- Migraines / HA
- Fractures
- Heart failure
- Cranial nerve neuropathies
