1
Q
Addisons Disease Definition
A
- 1st chronic adrenal insufficiency
- Adrenal cortex is progressively destroyed, resulting in decreased secretions of the hormones
- Decreased cortisol
- Causes body wide metabolic disorders and fluid imbalances
2
Q
Addisons Disease Signs and Symptoms
A
- Darkened skin pigmentation
- Slowly developing weakness and fatigue
- Hypotension
- Severe abdominal pain, LBP, and leg pain
3
Q

- Closed-chained strengthening (squats, chest press, shoulder press, bicep curls, lunges, TKE)
- Aerobics
6

Q
Cushings Disease Definition
A
- Increased secretion of cortisol by the adrenal cortex
- ACTH is secreted by anterior pituitary gland
- Stimulates production of cortisol (glucose and calcium) and aldosterone (sodium and water)
11
Q
Cushings Disease Signs and Symptoms
A
- Moon face
- Buffalo Hump
- Protuberant abdomen and purple straie
- Central obesity
12
Q
Cushings Disease Impairments
A
- Muscular wasting and weakness
- Kyphosis
- Decreased endurance
- Osteoporosis (hypercalcemia — excessive cortisol in blood blocks calcium from getting into bone which leads to this)
13
Q
Cushings Disease Demographics
A
20-40 year old, Female
14
Q
Cushings Disease Intervention
A
- Weight bearing exercises (push ups, sit ups, lifting weights)
- Aerobics (walking, cycling, jogging, swimming)
- Fall prevention
