Acromegaly Definition
A
- Excessive human growth hormone production in skeletal mature patients, resulting in gigantism
- Diagnosed in middle aged adults
- Can result in disfigurement, complicating conditions, and early death
- Insidious onset and slow progression

A
- Pituitary gland secreting too much growth hormone
- Causes issues with face, hands, and feet

Acromegaly Common Findings
A
- Carpal tunnel syndrome (can be bilat)
- Joint pain related to osteophyte formation
- Narrowing of joint spaces
- Premature OA
- Hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating)
- Frontal bossing
- Weight gain, sleep apnea, vision problems

A
- Impaired joint mobility
- Impaired motor function
- Impaired muscle performance and ROM
- Due to connective tissue dysfunction, localized inflammation, spinal disorders, or peripheral nerve injury
