A
  • Injury to peripheral nerve(s)
  • Temporary interruption of nerve function caused by damage to myelin sheath
  • Neuropraxia < Axonotmesis (partial nerve damage) < Neurotmesis (completely severed nerve)

Neuropraxia Causes

A
  • Trauma (fractures, dislocation, ligament or tendon injury, surgery, giving birth, or dental work)
  • Compression (tumor, herniated disc)
  • Ischemia (lack of blood flow)

  • Most cases resolve within a few weeks to months
  • However, some people may experience long term symptoms if there is severe damage
