ABI Procedure

A
  • Find SBP of both arms and take the highest one
  • Find posterior tibial artery pressure in both legs and take the highest one
  • Divide LE number by UE number to find the ABI then from there You can determine if atherosclerosis/arterial insufficiency is present

ABI Scoring

A
  • > 1.4 = atherosclerosis
  • > 1.2 = falsely elevated
  • 1.19-0.95 = normal
  • 0.94-0.75 = mild arterial disease and intermittent claudication
  • 0.74-0.50 = moderate arterial disease and rest pain
  • < 0.50 = severe arterial disease
