ABI Purpose
A
- Used to determine if atherosclerosis / arterial insufficiency is present

ABI Procedure
A
- Find SBP of both arms and take the highest one
- Find posterior tibial artery pressure in both legs and take the highest one
- Divide LE number by UE number to find the ABI then from there You can determine if atherosclerosis/arterial insufficiency is present

ABI Scoring
A
- > 1.4 = atherosclerosis
- > 1.2 = falsely elevated
- 1.19-0.95 = normal
- 0.94-0.75 = mild arterial disease and intermittent claudication
- 0.74-0.50 = moderate arterial disease and rest pain
- < 0.50 = severe arterial disease
