Q

MCA Stroke Overview

A
  • Supplies temporal and parietal
  • “MCA” = “my crappy arm” (while ACA is my crappy ass)
  • Affects contralat UE and lower face
  • Affects R or L hemisphere causing variable symptoms (Broca’s/wernikes, unilateral neglect/perceptual deficits, sensory ataxia, apraxia/cant initiate task)

Q

Brunnstrom Stages

A
  • 1 = flaccidity (pt not moving)
  • 2 = onset of primitive reflexes (ATNR, babinski, etc)
  • 3 = max spasticity (pt locked in specific position)
  • 4 = spasticity declines and SOME movements are performed outside of synergy
  • 5 = selective control of movement (can use one joint and other joint follows suit)
  • 6 = near normal with coordinated motions out of synergy
  • 7 = normal

Q

DOMINANT Pattern for LE Synergy

A
  • Hip flexion
  • Knee extension
  • Ankle PF
  • Toe flexion
  • Bridges and tall kneeling are good exercises to pull most joints out of synergy
