Peripheral Pulses
PAD = Decreased or absent
PVD = Present (although may be difficult to palpate w/ edema)

Ulcers

-Rounded smooth, looks punched out

-Black eschar or pale pink

-Near medial malleolus
-Irregularly shaped
-Lots of drainage
-Yellow slough or dark red granulation
Pain
PAD:
-Intermittent claudication or rest pain in foot (ulcer may not be painful)
PVD:
Dull ache or heaviness in calf or thigh (ulcer painful)
Nails
PAD:
-Thickened and brittle
PVD:
Normal
Skin color
PAD:
Pale when elevated
Dark purple when low
PVD
Brown bronze
Thickened skin
Varicose veins
Skin texture

Thin shiny taut
