What are the Side Effects and Precautions of Olanzapine
A
Side Effects (SED) CNS - Sedation - Dizziness Other - Extrapyrmidal symptoms and QT prolongation.
Precautions
- Olanzapine is less effective if pt agitation is due to the effects of drug or alcohol intoxication, Especially (stimulants)
- Elderly and frail or children are more susceptible to adverse effects.

- ODT
Special Notes
- Administration to pts less than 16 years of age should be consulted with the receiving hospital.
- Pts should self administer the medication under paramedic supervision.
- Olanazapine is managed as a restricted medication under AV policy.
- Olanzapine and Odansatron are similar in name and presentation, care should be undertaken when administering these medications.
Onset: 15 minutes
Duration: 12 - 24 Hours.
