A
Midazalam is a Benzodiazapine the acts on GABA A (Inhibitory Receptors).
- Short Acting CNS depressant
- Anxiolytic
- Sedation
- Anti-convulsant.

- 5mg in 1ml
- 15mg in 3ml.
Metabolized.
- In the Liver and Excreted by the Kidneys

What are the Indications and Contraindications of Midazalam.
A
Indications
- Status Epileptics
- Sedation in the Agitated patient.
- Sedation in Psycho stimulant OD
- Sedation to maintain intubation
- Sedation to Facilitate RSI
- Sedation to Facilitate Synchronized Cardioversion
- Sedation to Facilitate transthrosic pacing
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Benzodiazapines.

What are the Side Effects and Precautions of Midazalam

- Resp Depression
- Depressed level of Consciousness
- Hypotension
- Loss of Airway Control
Precaution (CAME)
- Reduce Doses may be required for
- Elderly and frail pts with chronic renal failure, CCF or Shock.
- Can cause severe Respiratory Depression with pts who suffer from COPD
- Pts with myasthania Gravis
- The CNS depressants of Benzodiazpines are enhanced by other drugs like narcotics or tranquilizers, e.g Alcohol.
