- Pain Relief
Contraindications (MRCHE)
- Muscular Dystrophy
- Pre- Existing Renal Impairment or Disease.
- Concurrent use of Tetracycline Antibiotics.
- Family Hx of Malignant Hyperthermia
- Exceeding the Max Dose of 6ml in 24 Hours.

What are the Side effects and Precautions of Methoxyflurane

Side Effects (HED)
- Drowsiness
- Hypotension/ Bradycardia (Rare)
- Exceeding the total does may lead to renal Toxicity,
Precautions.
- The Penthrox inhaler must be held by the patient, therefore if unconsciousness occurs it will fall from the patients mouth.
- Pre-eclampsia
- Concurrent use of oxytocin may cause hypotension.

Special Notes
- 3mls will provide 25 minutes of Analgesia, it may be followed by another 3mls if appropriate.
- Analgesia occurs after around 8 - 10 breaths, and last for 3 - 5 minutes if Discontinued.
- Do not Administer in an enclosed space, allow adequate ventilated area.
- Malignant Hyperthermia is a rare condition and can be induced by some anesthetics including Methoxyflurane. Ask patients about a family history or past history of adverse reactions to inhaled anesthetics.
- In patients with MD, Anesthetics may precipitate life threatening rhabdomyolysis
