What is the Pharmacology of Lignocaine
A
Local Anesthetic
- Sodium Channel Blocker.
- Interrupts impulse conduction in peripheral nerves and stabilizes excitable cell membranes.

Q
What are the Indications and Contraindications of Lignocaine.
A
Indication Local Anesthetic to reduce pain with - Ceftrixone Administration - Chest Decompression in pts with GCS less than 10 (MICA) - IO Administration in conscious pts.
Contraindications.
- Hypersensitivity to lidocaine or any relevant anesthetics (Bupivaccine, Levobupvacaine, Prilocane, Ropivacaine.)

What are the Side Effects and Precautions of Lignocaine
A
Side Effects
- Allergic reaction are rare and may present with localized oedema, urticaria, bronchospasm, Anaphylaxis.
- Signs of Systemic toxicity
- CNS: Tinnitus, Blurred Vision, Sudden change in conscious state, agitation and/ or convulsions.
- CV: Hypotension, Bradycardia, Arrhythmia’s (Conduction blocks, Ventricular Tachyarrythmias)
Precautions
- IM: Inadvertent intravascular administration may result in systemic toxicity.
- IO: Impaired CV function (Hypotension, Bradycardia, poor perfusion, heart block and heart failure).

Special Notes
- Lidocaine and Lignocaine are the same medication.
- Onset: 1 - 5 minutes
- Duration: 1 - 1.5 Hours.
