Metabolism
Dextrose
- Broken down in most tissues
- Stored in the Liver and Muscles as glycogen
Water
- Removed mainly by the Kidneys
- Stored throughout the body, mainly in Extracellular fluid compartments.
What are the Indications and Contraindications of Dextrose
Indications
- Diabetic Hyperglycemia (BGL <4) with a patient who is altered conscious state or can self administer glucose paste.
Contraindications
- Make sure IV line is secure, Dextrose can cause muscle necrosis.
