Novel AntiHTN Agents Flashcards
What is Nesiritide?
A BNP analog that mimics B-type natriuretic peptide
What are the effects of Nesiritide?
Decreases renin/aldosterone release,
decreases blood volume, cardiac output, and total peripheral resistance,
promoting vasodilation, natriuresis, and diuresis
mimics B-type natriuretic peptide
What condition is Nesiritide used to treat?
Acute decompensated heart failure, hypertension
What are the side effects of Nesiritide?
Hypotension, headache
What is Bosentan?
An endothelin receptor antagonist
How does Bosentan function?
Blocks endothelin-1 receptors to reduce vasoconstriction
What condition is Bosentan used to treat?
Pulmonary arterial hypertension
What are the side effects of Bosentan?
Hepatotoxicity, peripheral edema
What monitoring is required when using Bosentan?
Regular liver function monitoring
