Non-Traumatic Ankle Conditions Flashcards
Where is pain felt in Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome?
Distal 2/3 of the medial tibia
Both Tibial Stress Fractures and Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome share what type of aggravating and relieving factors in common?
Both Report:
- Pain worse with activity
- Relief with rest
Where is palpable pain felt in Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome?
Palpation:
- 5 consecutive cm of the posteromedial tibia
In MTSS, which muscles are tight/strong
- Plantar Flexors
- Tibialis Posterior
(same for stress fracture)
Main difference between MTSS and Tibial Stress Fracture?
Palpation of tibial stress fracture is more localized! (not along 5 cm of tibia)
What is Sever’s Disease?
Calcaneal Apophysitis in Children, secondary to tight plantar flexors creating pull of the achilles tendon on the calcaneus
Age range for Sever’s Disease?
8-15 y/o
Motions (during examination) that reproduce pain in Sever’s Disease?
Pain with Passive DF
Pain can be reproduced with palpation of what area in Sever’s Disease?
Pain with palpation distal to the Achilles insertion.
Special Test that may be provocative in Sever’s Disease?
- Squeeze test on calcaneus
- Single limb stance
What is Os Trigonum?
Failure of the Talus to Fuse completely (7% of pop.)
Pain may be felt in which regions in Os Trigonum?
Posterior Ankle
Which motion is most affected in Os Trigonum?
- Decreased and Painful PF ROM
How can Os Trigonum be differentiated from Sever’s Disease?
No Pain Reproduced With:
- Palpation of Achilles Tendon or Calcaneus
- Passive DF
Activities/Sports in which Os Trigonum is Painful?
- Runners
- Ballet Dancers
