1
Q
What is Torticollis
A
Secondary to contraction of the sternocleidomastoid (SCM)
Head laterally flexed toward the muscle, and rotated away from contracted muscle.
Ipsilateral Lateral Flexion, Contralateral Rotation
2
Q
What may be the cause of CMT?
A
- Birth Trauma, breech delivery
- Breech/abnormal position in utero
(Babies may appear healthy at birth, but within a few days or weeks they develop swelling over the injured SCM)
3
Q
What information should be obtained to confirm diagnosis?
A
- Potential mass over the SCM
- Posturing of the neck
Homie you can see that shit.
4
Q
What additional finding may be present with CMT?
A
- Congenital Dysplasia of the Hips
- Facial Asymmetries
- Plagiocephaly
5
Q
Appropriate physical therapy interventions
A
- Passive stretching to the SCM (Contralateral SB + Ipsilateral Rotation to affectem SCM) (+ Extension)
- AROM exercises
- Family and caregiver education on proper positioning during feeding and during sleep.
6
Q
Outcomes to conservative treatment.
A
Large majority of patients with CMT respond to conservative treatment within the first year of life.
