What is Myositis Ossificans?
A
Painful condition secondary to abnormal calcification within a muscle belly.

What are the usually causes?
A
- Precipitated by direct trauma that results in hematoma, and subsequent calcification of the muscle.
- early mobilization and stretching
- aggressive physical therapy following trauma to muscle

Frequent locations affected?
A
- Quadriceps
- Brachialis
- Biceps Brachii

When is surgery indicated?
A
- only in patients with nonhereditary myositis ossificans, and only after maturation
- Lesion mechanically interferes with joint movement or impinge nerve.

What is one thing to avoid when applying manual therapy techniques.
A
Avoid aggressive soft tissue massage techniques as this can worsen the condition.
