muscles of the triangles of the neck Flashcards
1
Q
- mylohyoid muscle
A
- forms the floor of the oral cavity and supports the floor of the mouth
- Attachments= from the mylohyoid line of the mandible to the hyoid bone.
- IN= nerve to mylohyoid muscle a branch of the inferior alveolar nerve CNV3
- MA= elevates the hyoid bone, the floor of the mouth, tongue during swallowing and speaking
2
Q
- geniohyoid muscle
A
- Att= from the inferior mental spine of the mandible to the body of the hyoid bone
- IN= C1 via the hypoglossal nerve CN XII
- MA= elevates the hyoid bone anteriorsuperiorly, shortens the floor of the mouth, and widens the pharynx
3
Q
- stylohyoid muscle
A
- Att= from the styloid process of the temporal bone to the body of the mandible
- IN= styloid process of the facial nerve CN VII
- MA= elevates and retracts the hyoid, elongating the floor of the mouth/Initiates a swallowing action by pulling the hyoid bone in a posterior and superior direction
4
Q
- anterior belly of the digastric muscle
A
- Att= from digastric fossa of the mandible to the intermediate tendon at the greater horn of the hyoid
- IN= nerve to mylohyoid which is a branch of the inferior alveolar nerve
3. MA=WORKING WITH INFRAHYOID MUSCLES, DEPRESSES MANDIBLE AGAINST RESISTANCE, ELEVATES AND STEADIES HYOID DURING SWALLOWING AND SPEAKING
5
Q
- posterior belly of the digastric muscle
A
- Att= styloid process of the temporal bone to the intermediate tendon at the greater horn of the hyoid
- IN= digastric branch of the facial nerve
3. MA= WORKING WITH INFRAHYOID MUSCLES, DEPRESSES MANDIBLE AGAINST RESISTANCE, ELEVATES AND STEADIES HYOID DURING SWALLOWING AND SPEAKING
6
Q
A. sternohyoid muscle
A
- Att= manubrium of the sternum and medial clavicular end to the body of the hyoid
- IN= C1-C3 of ansa cervicalis
- MA= depresses the hyoid after elevation during swallowing
7
Q
B. omohyoid muscle
A
- Att= superior aspect of the scapular to the inferior border of the hyoid.
- In= C1-C3 of ansa cervicalis
- MA= depresses, retracts, stabilize the hyoid
8
Q
C. sternothyroid muscle
A
- Att= from posterior surface of the manubrium to the oblique surface of the thyroid cartilage
- IN= C2-C3 branch of ansa cervicalis
- MA= depresses the hyoid and the larynx
9
Q
D. thyrohyoid muscle
A
- Att= from the oblique line of the thyroid cartilage to the body and greater horn of the hyoid
- IN= C1 through hypoglossal nerve CNX2
- MA= depresses the hyoid and elevates the larynx
