FACE AND SCALP Flashcards
1
Q
layers of the scalp
A
S- skin C-connective tissue A- aponeurotic layer L- loose areolar connective tissue P- pericranium
2
Q
SKIN
A
- thin expect at the occipital region
- has sebaceous and sweat gland and hair follicle
- abundant blood supply and lymphatic drainage
3
Q
CONNECTIVE TISSUE
A
- dense
- connect the skin to the third layer
- has cutaneous nerves
- contains arteries and veins that supply the scalp
4
Q
APONEURESIS
A
- CONSISTS OF occipitofrontalis muscles which include
- frontal belly anteriorly
- occipital belly posteriorly
- aponeurotic tendon connecting the two
5
Q
PERICRANIUM
A
- dense layer of connective tissue
- forms the outer periosteum of the calvaria
- removable except at the area of the sutures
6
Q
arterial supply to the scalp
A
- arteries that supply the scalp are either branches coming from the EXTERNAL CAROTID ARTERY or the OPHTHALMIC ARTERY
7
Q
external carotid artery branches
A
- the occipital artery
- posterior auricular- behind the ear
- superficial temporal arteries
8
Q
ophthalmic artery( internal carotid artery)
A
- supply the anterior scalp
- supratrochlear artery
- superficial temporal arteries
9
Q
VENOUS DRAINAGE
A
- supra-orbital and supratrochlear veins- drain the anterior part of the scalp.
- superficial temporal veins- drain the skull anterior/lateral to the auricles.
- posterior auricular vein- drain the scalp posterior to the auricles.
- occipital veins- drain occipital part of the scalp.
- deep temporal veins- drains deep parts of the scalp, it is tributaries of the pterygoid venous plexus
10
Q
innervation of the scalp
A
- anterior to the auricles of the external ears is through the division of the TRIGEMINAL NERVE.
- posterior to the auricles is supplied from the branches of spinal cutaneous nerve
11
Q
trigeminal nerve branches
A
- supratrochlear nerve
- supra-orbital nerve
- zygomaticotemporal nerve
- auriculotemporal nerve
12
Q
spinal cutaneous nerve branches
A
- great auricular nerve
- lesser occipital nerve
- greater occipital nerve
- third occipital nerve
13
Q
SCALP
A
extends from superciliary arch to external occipital protuberance and superior nuchal lines posteriorly, laterally it continues with the zygomatic arch
14
Q
lymphatic of the scalp
A
- mastoid nodes- posterior to the vertex of the
head, mastoid drains into upper deep cervical nodes - pre-auricular and parotid nodes, anterior to the vertex of the head and ear on the surface of parotid gland
