Q

external carotid artery

A

o Runs posterosuperior to an area between the lobule of the auricle and the neck of the mandible

o Terminates in the parotid gland where it divides into:
§ Maxillary artery
§ Superficial temporal artery

o 6 branches are formed before its termination
§ Ascending Pharyngeal Artery
§ Occipital Artery
§ Posterior Auricular Artery
§ Superior Thyroid Artery
§ Lingual Artery
§ Facial Artery

Q

external jugular vein

A

o Superficial

o Related to superficial cervical lymph nodes

o Formation at the angle of the Mandible by the:
§ Posterior branch of the Retromandibular Vein
§ Posterior Auricular Vein

Q

internal jugular vein

A

Deep drainage of brain, anterior face, cervical viscera, and deep muscles

o Formation as the continuation of the sigmoid sinus

o Related to deep cervical lymph nodes such as the Jugulodigastric and Juguloomohyoid nodes

o Drains into Subclavian Vein which drains into the Brachiocephalic Vein

Q

the first part of the subclavian artery

A

The first part of the subclavian artery ascends to the
medial border of the anterior scalene muscle from
either the brachiocephalic trunk on the right side or
directly from the arch of the aorta on the left side.

Branches:
o Vertebral artery
o Internal thoracic artery
o Thyrocervical trunk à (inferior thyroid,
superficial cervical, suprascapular arteries)

Q

the second part of the subclavian artery

A

behind the anterior scalene muscle. Has one
branch:
o Costocervical trunk à (superior

Q

the third part of the subclavian artery

A
