Muscle Phsyiology - Nueromuscular Junctions Flashcards

Q

Explain what happens once a action potential meets a narrow terminal

A

1- Whenever an action potential reaches the narrow terminal, it causes an opening of the calcium channels; calcium enters the synaptic terminal.
2- Presence of calcium causes exocytosis of the synaptic vesicles.
3- Neurotransmitter is released into the synaptic cleft and binds to the receptor on the postsynaptic membrane.
4- This causes opening of the sodium channels.
5- Does the entry of sodium into the muscle membran the generation of the end plate??? Potential causing an action potential ?
6- This action potential will pass through the muscle fibre into the t-tubule and the rest will continue…
