Formed of 5 fused vertebrae
Can be unfused, usually partially
Fuses completely between age 18-35

How does the structure of the pelvis inlet differ from male to females ?
A
Male – Heart-shaped pelvic inlet
Female – Oval-shaped pelvic inlet

What are the functions of the sacrum ?
A
The sacrum has quite different functions from the previous vertebrae:
Support – weight-bearing
Posterior aspect of the pelvis
Muscle and ligament attachment
Pelvic bone attachment site
